Seahorses host numerous free soccer camps for underprivileged kids
Summer 2006
Salvation Army Camp
The ministry at the Salvation Army Camp in the Malibu area is a bit different from the other Seahorse camps. The Seahorses are a soccer extension of what the Sports Camp is already doing rather than being in charge of the entire camp.  One’s responsibility is smaller but still is very important as you prepare what you will do for the one hour sessions. Outside of the one hour sessions you can eat and hang out with the children.
The 20 or so campers in one’s group varied greatly in ability, thus the need to be prepared both in patience, as well as, organization so that you can challenge the better players, yet not discourage the weaker ones.  Over and over again we had the opportunity to reflect God’s love in our actions, words, patience, and kindness as we faced different challenges.
We are appreciative to the staff of the camp and especially Don and Lisa Mowery for making us feel very very welcome and a part of the overall program.  We look forward to future partnership.

Skid Row Clinics
The Seahorse staff of 7-9 headed in to the unknown while Jessica, Lisa and Chris from Central City Church headed toward La Fayette Park.  God brought us together on July 17 and 18.  The first day was a bit rough as the children and Seahorses were in a new environment.  Some of the children were angry and not cooperative, yet the LORD provided the patience and the love needed.
The 2nd day went better as we knew what to expect and were more organized. The children were more cooperative and relaxed.   We played and played—drank lots of fluid and shared the gospel with the EvangeCube.  The kids were precious and attentive.  Many good contacts were made not only with the kids but also with different ones that showed up to play.  Ivan and Hilda (from Mexico) are parents of Jesus that came to play.  I was able to get their info to a friend who is a Pastor near the park and he was going to contact them.
Overall it was excellent as in 2 days many good friendships were made and the love of Jesus shared over and over again.  The children received certificates for their participation.  A highlight for me was when I said to 7 year old Tyress (about 180 lbs. of him) that some day I could see him as a lineman for the Oakland Raiders.  He responded rather indignantly: "NO-SOCCER!"  Mission accomplished!!!
