The Seahorses Continue To Roll

With two consecutive solid victories the Seahorses put themselves into first place in the Major Division of the Coast Soccer League. The Seahorses came out strong on February 17th against their arch rival the Tustin Celtic with Christian Rus scoring a hat trick and Don Spence adding on in the first 16 minutes. They held the lead until near the end of the game then the Celtic notched two goals. This past Sunday they soundly defeated Beach SC 4-0 with 2 goals from Mauricio Garcia and one each from Bryan Hernandez and Marius Rus. The team appears to peeking as they head into the Second Round of the Raul Briones Cup. They will face the #1 seed LA Blues on March 9th.

Beyond the soccer, the Seahorses spend time weekly having Bible studies with the players. We thank God that He is working in our lives as there has been an improvement in our attitudes towards each other and towards our opponents. You are invited to pray for us as we reach out to each other and to others that we will exhibit the love of Christ.. We would also enjoy having you attend our games.

Seahorses Defeat PSA 7-0

The Seahorses got off to a great start in the second half of their Coast Soccer League schedule. They faced PSA at La Mirada High School Stadium on  Sunday the 13th of January. One minute into the game, Ben Orr started off the scoring barrage with a tremendous shot from about 40 yards with his left foot from the right side of the field. Anthony Herrera added two more goals in the first half as the Seahorses moved the ball fluidly up and down the field. The second half saw two goals by Christian Rus with David Sarega and Louis McDermott each adding a tally.

We thank God and give HIm the glory for  a great team effort with  a lot of team unity and encouragement displayed.  It marked the third consecutive shutout for the Seahorses who appear to be coming into their own with good rhythm of play, better work rate and team spirit on the field.

Seahorse Men advance to the Friendship Cup Semifinal
January 07

The Seahorses played a very tough match against long time rival LA Strikers on Sunday.  After regulation the score was 0-0.  Neither team had any truly great chances in regulation and it was a very physical match with LA Strikers receiving 6 yellow cards and 1 red.  The Seahorses unfortunately also got a yellow card or two.

Into overtime it was getting dark, cold and the Strikers looked to be fading in energy.  The Seahorses came at them strong but could not score in the first 15.  In the second 15 forward Javier dribbled across the box and was tripped up by LA Striker Frank and a penalty was awarded.  The kick was covnerted and it looked as if the Seahorses were going to win.  However, it was not until the last 5 were played that the Seahorses were assured of their victory.  The Strikers had a couple late surges and nearly scored but the Seahorses held on and will now face Tustin Celtic in the Semi-Final match of the Friendship Cup on March 4.

Post game ministry went well with friendly faces for the most part.  The Strikers congratulated us and were appreciative of such a great hard match.  It was a game to be proud of as God was glorified in our play.
