February 24-25
These were exciting days as 7 people from the Seahorses were involved in Church Centered Sports Ministry (CBSM) training in Tecate, Mexico. We left early Friday morning and arrived at about 10:30am at the site where the training was to be held - The Tecate Bible Institute. The seminars began an hour later and went through the afternoon, a lunch break where we were served a delicious meal was a highlight of the day. There were about 15 in attendance, most being Bible Institute students. Some topics taught and discussed were:
- What can bring glory to God?
- Is Sport Good or Evil?
- Six Keys for Starting CCSM
- We also spent time organizing the tournament for the next day
After supper, youth from various parts of the city came for a rally. Music, games, testimonies, and a challenge from Hebrews 12:1 & 2 were a part of this event.
Saturday was tournament day! Invitations had been given to several churches to participate, but we weren’t sure how many would come. The LORD brought 4 adult teams; one that was recruited that morning and 5 youth teams. 8-a-side soccer was played with great enthusiasm on 3 different fields for over 3 hours. At the end of the competition close to 150 people heard former professional soccer player and member of the Seahorses, Pablo Torrentez, share from his heart emphasizing the shortness of life, the length of eternity and the importance of making peace with God. The audience was challenged to seek out a Pastor if they wanted to talk more about their relationship with God.
The Seahorses were delighted to have been a part of this exciting weekend where much soccer was played, CCSM was taught and friendships were made - all for the glory of God. We look forward to further partnerships with our Mexican brothers and sisters in Tecate.
