The 2011 PDL season is just around the corner, and we have been very busy behind the scenes getting ready for it! Coach Todd Elkins returns as our head coach for his seventh year. Though the roster is not final, we are excited about the group we have coming. The process in putting this squad together started with a tryout in Charlotte in January. Since then, we have had four other tryouts and reviewed over 120 applications! This has been a laborious process that has been covered in prayer asking the Lord to send us the right players to partner with us this season.
A new addition to the program has been the change in General Manager. Though Paul Gizzi is not the GM, his 10 years of experience will definitely be an integral part of the program through his continued leadership as Director of the Seahorse program. Taking on the PDL leadership as GM is Mark Schrock, who has served in the organization since its inception in 1983. He has already been very involved with the player selection with Coach Elkins and the many preparations for this upcoming season.
The schedule for this season is full of exciting matches. We have a unique and special opener for this year’s season! On May 14, at 4:30 PM, we will be a part of an evening tripleheader; in which we will play the L.A. Misioneros of the PDL, followed by our sister club, the Charlotte Eagles, as they will be out here for their match with L.A. Blues (USL Pro Division). The matches will be at Titan Stadium in Fullerton. This will be the first time where two teams from different locations of Missionary Athletes International will be playing on the same day at the same site. We certainly want to invite you to these games and the rest of the season!
