The Seahorses defeated the Quakes both times last year—1-0 on July 22 at San Fernando Valley and 2-0 on June 14 at La Mirada . In 2001, the Seahorses went 3-0-1 against a different club playing in the San Fernando Valley . That club was named the Heroes, who changed their affiliation in 2002 to the Los Angeles Heroes.

He converted an indirect free kick from 9 yards out in the fourth minute for an early 1-0 lead at San Jose . Josiah Snelgrove was given the assist … Steven Lenhart and Nikolas Gabaldon were the starting forwards … Lenhart is the only Seahorses player among the national leaders in an individual statistical category: fouls, with seven in two games. Jorge Vega-Borbon of the Austin Lightning leads the country with nine in two games …Greg Larson has gone the distance in goal in both matches, facing 16 shots on goal, making five saves and allowing four goals … When the Seahorses started 0-2-0 in 2001, they finished the season 13-6-1 with a nine-game winning streak at the end … Head coach Todd Elkins was born in a Tongan village in the African country of Zambia. He spent much of the past winter visiting the village where he spent the first few years of his life. Villagers still remembered the small white boy who so quickly developed an ability to expertly kick a soccer ball, even by age 3. Elkins left Africa when his missionary parents moved to southern California, and he attended Muir High School in Pasadena . Elkins also spent part of the winter in , helping to build a housing center for what they call “invisible kids” (orphans).
QUAKES NOTES: They have twice scored five goals in a game this season, against the Los Angeles Storm and Lancaster Rattlers, both resulting in Quakes victories … They lost to the Ventura County Fusion and tied the Orange County Blue Star … Forward Ryan Shaw is tied for the national lead in points this season with 10 in four matches … Shaw’s five goals and Oscar Sims’ three account for most of the team’s offense … Chad Borak leads them in assists with two.
