Late rally sinks Seahorses, 2-1

Just six minutes earlier, the Seals had tied the match on a goal from 25 yards by forward Johnny Gonzales (assist by James Brent).

Lenhart (Azusa Pacific University) put the Seahorses in the lead in the first place on a beautiful feed by Conan Hawkins in the eighth minute. Hawkins maneuvered around a defender near the right goal line and zipped a pass across the box. Lenhart crashed toward the goal, sliding into the ball to put it past Conner for a 1-0 lead.

The Seahorses outshot the Seals, 11-6, for the game. Conner made six saves; Seahorses goalkeeper Greg Larson made three saves.

The Seals (2-2-0) remained in a tie for sixth place in the 10-team Southwest Division of the USL Premier Development League. The Seahorses (1-4-0) fell into eighth place.

The Seahorses return to action next Saturday against the Bakersfield Brigade at Bakersfield Christian High School.

The Southern California Seahorses play in the USL Premier Development League, the only national league giving elite amateur players a professional experience within United Soccer Leagues while retaining their amateur status. Founded in 1983 as a club, the Seahorses have traveled to more than 30 countries. They draw many of their players from local colleges, clubs and international soccer programs.
