Sporting a new tie A 1-1 knot against L.A. Storm keeps Seahorses looking for answersGLENDORA, Calif. (July 5, 2007) –In a scenario that has become painfully familiar this season, the Southern California Seahorses on Thursday scored an early goal to capture the lead, but gave it up on a defensive breakdown. The result was a 1-1 tie against the Los Angeles Storm in a USL Premier Development League soccer match at Citrus College.
Right wing Rick DeKoning put the Seahorses on top in the 41st minute by picking up a loose ball in the goal box and putting it in the net from about 10 yards out.
However, the lead evaporated early in the second half when a miscommunication between goalkeeper Greg Larson and a teammate left the ball on the foot of a Storm forward, who tied the match with an easy goal. The goal came in the 59th minute and was enough to withstand some strong chances by the Seahorses.
The tie kept the Seahorses (3-5-3) in the bottom half of the 10-team PDL Southwest Division standings. The Storm (5-4-3) is tied for fifth place.
The Seahorses return home tonight to play the Ventura County Fusion at La Mirada High School’s Goodman Stadium at 7:30 p.m..
