PLAYING A GAME TO CHANGE THE WORLD

Dear Friends of the Seahorses!

As we enter 2024, we and the larger organization Missionary Athletes International are thankful for the Lord’s faithfulness through our first 40 years of ministry. We are also thankful for each of you, and all that you have done to participate in and shape this mission.

Over 40 years, MAI has grown in intentional and organic ways from its beginnings right here in Southern California, to launching offices in Charlotte, Chicago, High Point, Phoenix, and Orlando - not to mention, our International Affiliates, International Training program, and impactful International Outreach Ministry. As we begin our next 40 years as a mission, we are striving to capture the synergy of being a larger organization as God continues to lead us in “Playing a Game to Change the World”.

At the beginning an exciting season of growth, we want to take a step to align with the rest of our mission by retiring our Seahorse mascot in March of this year, and taking the field as the Southern California Eagles, which is a common mascot among our mission locations.

In the years since the organization’s inception in 1983, teams have competed under different names including: Orange FC, OFC Seahorses, Seahorse Soccer, Sea Ponies, and Seafilles. We recognize the history associated with the Seahorse name and we want you to know – while under a different logo, our mission remains the same: to introduce people to Jesus, to teach them to follow him, and to empower them as leaders through the global environment of soccer. We will strive for excellent soccer, authentic community, and spiritual formation across all our platforms for all our players, coaches, and families.

We are also very excited to tell you about our local ministry expansions in 2024:

· WPSL Team for collegiate women

· Summer Academy to train college interns in sports ministry

· U23 men’s team

· International Outreach to Cuba, Japan, Colombia, Brazil

· New Youth Club Teams for boys and girls

· Multiple REC locations between La Mirada, Fullerton, and Yorba Linda.

2024 is already shaping up to be a year of big dreams, huge prayers, deep trust, and faithful pursuit of our calling to introduce people to Jesus, to teach them to follow him, and to empower them as leaders. We are proud of the Seahorse legacy and we will honor it as we play a game to change the world
